Hugill has not featured in the first team so far this season but did go on the preseason tour and impressed Ten Hag with his performances.

The 19-year-old centre forward, meanwhile, has continued his positive form with Man Utd U21 in the Premier League 2, netting three goals and claiming an assist in four appearances. He also netted against Stockport in the EFL Trophy.

According to The Daily Mail, Hugill is set to sign a new contract with the club, with a three-year deal, which has the option of another season, expected to be signed this week.

The teenager, meanwhile, is training with the first-team squad presently, with Ten Hag of the belief that this is a better option for his development than a season-long loan.

During the January transfer window, though, it is expected that Hugill will be allowed to depart to gain first-team experience.

Who wants to sign Hugill?

Championship side Sunderland could be contenders to land Hugill, who previously played for the Stadium of Light side. Indeed, the Black Cats had tried to sign him on loan earlier this year, but that request was denied.

Following the strong loan performance of Amad Diallo at Sunderland, though, Man Utd could well be inclined to send the striker back there n order to develop his game.

The report also indicates that there has been interest from a string of League One clubs.

Ten Hag, meanwhile, has stated that his goal is to get more Man Utd youth players integrated into the first-team squad, which opens the door to Hugill getting more opportunities in the future.
