Manchester United are reported to be very upset with Sergio Ramos after he bluntly rejected a late transfer offer from them.

Ramos decided to return to Sevilla after 18 years away on a free transfer, rejecting a number of far more lucrative offers in the process.

One of these, according to The Sun, was from Man Utd.

United made a late move for Ramos in the transfer window in a bid to strengthen their defensive department.

The Red Devils are currently facing an injury crisis at centre back, with Raphael Varane again forced onto the sidelines. Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans were forced to both play during the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal so desperate is the situation.

United hoped that the 37-year-old Ramos could provide some much-needed experience and quality.

They offered him a one-year contract worth £73,000 per week.

United are said to be upset by the way in which Ramos rejected them as he swiftly and curtly turned down the offer without much fuss.

Ramos back to Sevilla

Ramos was a free agent after his contract at PSG expired in the summer following two difficult years at the club. He previously spent 16 years winning numerous trophies and awards at Real Madrid.

Ramos also rejected a huge contract offer from Saudi Arabia before opting to join Sevilla.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad offered Ramos an incredible €20m per year.

Galatasaray are also said to have offered the Spaniard a deal worth €11m per year.

But Ramos decided to return to his former club Sevilla for an annual salary of just €1m.

Ramos will be hoping to improve Sevilla’s fortunes as they are rock bottom of La Liga, having failed to pick up a single point in their opening three fixtures.
