Manchester United suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday at Old Trafford, leaving Red Devils fans surprisingly pining for a return of goalkeeper David de Gea.

De Gea was released in the summer when his contract with the club expired. Significant negotiations were held but no new deal was found with the former Atletico Madrid star.

This prompted Man Utd into the transfer market to move for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, yet the Cameroon international has had a rocky start to life at Old Trafford.

Although not directly to blame for Man Utd’s loss against Brighton, a sizeable portion of Red Devils fans are lamenting the loss of his remarkable shot-stopping capabilities – something that often went underappreciated.

Manager Erik ten Hag was never a big fan of the Spaniard because of his inability to play with his feet, which is why there were initially few tears shed over his departure.

Some fans now, though, are revising their opinion on the 32-year-old who remains a free agent.

Man Utd fans want De Gea back

“When David De Gea won the Golden Glove last season, everybody was so eager to praise the defence instead of acknowledging how world-class his shot-stopping abilities are. We've warned you that you'll regret booting him out just to bring in Onana, enjoy the show now!” one said.
