Manchester United winger Antony has returned to the UK in what might be his first step towards a return to action for the Old Trafford club.

The former Ajax star has been suspended by the Red Devils following accusations of domestic abuse levelled towards the Brazil star and had been back in his homeland since the September international break.

Antony denies these claims and the Manchester Evening News reports that he is returning to the UK to voluntarily meet with Greater Manchester Police for questioning.

Gabriela Cavallin has filed complaints regarding two instances of assault, which took place in January and May of 2022.

The Man Utd player has already spoken to the Brazilian authorities about the incidents and continues to reject the accusations towards him.

Taking to social media, he said: “I can say with confidence that accusations are false and that the evidence already produced show that I am innocent of the accusations made.

“My relationship with Ms Gabriela was tumultuous, with verbal offences from both sides, but I never practiced any physical aggression.

“I trust that the ongoing police investigations will demonstrate the truth about my innocence.”

When will Antony play for Man Utd again?

It is unclear if or even when Antony might play for Man Utd again, with a resolution in the accusations against him apparently vital for a return to action for the 23-year-old.

The Red Devils have not offered a definitive answer, with their statement on 10 September indicating: “It has been agreed with Antony that he will delay his return until further notice in order to address the allegations.”

Antony’s discussions with Greater Manchester Police are the first step towards a resolution of the case.

Manager Erik ten Hag, meanwhile, will be eager for the air to be cleared over this situation, with his squad short of depth on the wings following his decision to freeze Jadon Sancho out of action as a disciplinary measure.
