Mauricio Pochettino’s side spent big during the summer transfer window, but despite €467.8 million worth of investment, they are currently in the bottom-half of the Premier League table after a poor start to the new season.

Links with yet more new signings have begun circulating, with the Blues still keen on bolstering the squad available to Pochettino.

A new centre-back is being chased, in anticipation of Trevoh Chalobah’s likely January exit, while an attacker has also been linked amid Nicolas Jackson’s goal-scoring troubles.

The summer signing has scored just two Premier League goals in nine appearances this campaign and Armando Broja’s injury issues have seen him return to the sidelines recently.

Gonzalez has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge of late, but Romano has revealed that interest from Chelsea is not concrete.

What has Romano said?

Romano told CaughtOffside: “Another Chelsea rumour is that Nico Gonzalez is now on their radar, but honestly I’m not aware of any contact with Chelsea at this stage.

“It’s a very quiet situation since Fiorentina rejected £40m from Brentford last summer," he added. "He’s a very good player in my opinion, but he probably needs one more year in Fiorentina before thinking about a big move to somewhere like Chelsea.”

Brentford wanted to sign Gonzalez during the most recent transfer window, but they were unable to agree a deal with Fiorentina.

Thomas Frank’s side ended up bringing Neal Maupay back to the club on loan, but the Frenchman is still yet to score this campaign.

By comparison, Gonzalez has scored seven goals and provided two assists in 13 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A side this season. Gonzalez also has five goals in 28 caps for Argentina.
