EXCLUSIVE: Premier League clubs to send scouts to monitor Liverpool target Andre
Andre will be looked at by several Premier League clubs during the Copa Libertadores final but there have been no talks with Liverpool or Arsenal in recent weeks despite reports to the contrary, FootballTransfers understands.
The midfielder remains liked by Jurgen Klopp, as one of a number of options, but the Gunners have so far not registered any interest and we are informed that they will look to bolster other areas of the pitch, such as a right-winger and a No.9, during the January window instead.
Fulham and West Ham put proposals in for the Brazil international over the summer, along with Liverpool, but ultimately a deal wasn’t agreed with Fluminese, who wanted to keep the player until the conclusion of their season in December. The youngster will likely head to the Premier League next year but it’s still early stages and the focus is very much on winning the final against Boca Juniors on November 4.
We are informed that several clubs will send their head scouts to watch the game at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, with eyes on Andre as well as other talent set to feature, such as Valentin Barco, John Kennedy, and Alexsander.
Why didn’t Andre join Liverpool over the summer?
Klopp had eyed Andre to solve Liverpool’s woes in midfield following a difficult transfer window but Fluminense were unwilling to let him go despite receiving numerous proposals from English clubs. €30 million for their talisman.
Andre spoke to Brazilian outlet GE Globo after the window closed, where he acknowledged the speculation but reiterated his focus on the current campaign with his side.
“It is obvious that it is normal to receive proposals. Even more so with the team doing well, passing the stage at Conmebol Libertadores, at the top of the Brasileirão,” he said.
“Not just for me, but it must have gotten to others as well. I am happy for the proposals that arrive, but my mind today is focused 100% on Fluminense.”
