Manchester United wonderkid Daniel Gore has been compared to Barcelona legend Lionel Messi after he netted a mesmerising solo goal against Blackburn Rovers this weekend.

Gore, 19, picked up a loose ball inside the centre circle and went on a driving run that saw him burst past one Rovers midfielder before selling another defender with a neat fake and then smashing the ball past Blackburn’s Joe Hilton.

The young midfielder posted a video of the goal on his Instagram account, along with a picture from the game, and he was flooded with praise in the comments.

United youngster Kobbie Mainoo posted a comment that said: “where’s he goin” in relation to the defender who was sent sliding by the Red Devils star, while two of Gore's Man Utd team-mates compared him to Inter Miami star Messi.

Sam Murray, who signed his first professional contract at Old Trafford in May, replied with a gif of Messi celebrating for Barcelona, while Rhys Bennett commented: “Messi, Messi, Messi.”

It was Gore’s first goal of the campaign and the strike came following his senior Man Utd debut against Crystal Palace last week.

Gore made the matchday squad for games versus Nottingham Forest and Bayern Munich, and he was handed his debut by Erik ten Hag in the Carabao Cup win over Palace.

He was voted as Man Utd’s reserve team Player of the Year last campaign and many expect the youngster to break into the first-team soon.

Messi at Inter Miami

While Gore has been compared to Messi by his Man Utd team-mates, it’s fair to say he’s not quite on the level of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Messi, 36, has scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 12 Inter Miami appearances since moving to the USA earlier this year. He is, however, currently sidelined through injury.
