Liverpool have been told to replace Mohamed Salah with Bryan Mbeumo by former Premier League player Tony Cascarino.

Salah continues to be linked with a Saudi move after the reigning Pro League Al-Ittihad champions saw their big-money offers rejected by Liverpool in the summer. Saudi chiefs are keen to make the Egyptian, arguably the most famous Muslim player in the world currently, one of the faces of their project, for which they have already acquired Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and ex-Reds Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and Fabinho.

While recent reports suggest that the Anfield club will once again hold firm in January and refuse to sell their star man midway through the season, a summer move can't be ruled out and is perhaps even likely given that it will represent Liverpool's final chance to cash in on the 31-year-old, who is out of contract in 2025.

Among the names heavily linked as a potential replacement is Bayern Munich's Leroy Sane. The German has previous Premier League experience with Man City and is currently Europe's most in-form winger.

Sane will command a hefty fee, however, which German media puts at €80 million, so Liverpool would do well to look at alternatives.

Is Mbeumo the answer?

Former Republic of Ireland international and Chelsea star Tony Cascarino believes that the Reds should target Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo instead. “If Mohamed Salah ever leaves Liverpool, the club should go and buy Bryan Mbeumo as his replacement,” Cascarino wrote in The Times.

“At only 24, his best years are ahead of him and he has all the attributes to succeed at a club of Liverpool’s stature: he is versatile, durable and counterattacks with real ferocity."

“He has increased his goal output, with nine in the Premier League last season and six in only ten appearances this year, including the tap-in to an empty net that wrapped up Brentford’s 2-0 win away to Chelsea.”

Mbeumo's Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €57 million.
