Fabrizio Romano has told Manchester United that they have every chance of landing Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo.

The France international, who is under contract with Nice until 2027, has enjoyed a strong start to the season as Francesco Farioli’s Nice side have made an undefeated beginning to the Ligue 1 campaign.

This has come in the aftermath of a busy summer in which Man Utd were heavily linked with the 23-year-old Todibo as a potential reinforcement to the middle of the Red Devils defence, and while the Old Trafford side were unable to land their man on that occasion, Romano has given them hope of doing so in the months ahead.

“Todibo is a player on the list of Manchester United already since June, July. They have had very positive conversations on player side,” Romano told The United Stand.

“From what I’m hearing still now, the idea has not changed - Todibo would love to join Manchester United.

“He’s really attracted by the opportunity to play in the Premier League. He’s an expensive player.

“He remains a player appreciated by United’s scouring department… not the only one.”

Ratcliffe takeover could transform the picture

Should Sir Jim Ratcliffe complete his minority takeover of 25% of Man Utd, it would open the door to Todibo making a transfer with some ease.

Ratcliffe’s INEOS group already own Nice, and if he were to have a foot in both camps, it would make little sense for the Red Devils to pay over the odds for the player. Equally, with Financial Fair Play (FFP) to consider from Nice’s perspective, Todibo would not depart cheaply either.

Nice signed Todibo for €8.5 million from Barcelona in January 2021 but his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has risen to over €20m in the intervening period, with the centre-back’s top-end price around the €26m mark.
