Manchester United youngster Hannibal Mejbri is still being courted by LaLiga giants Sevilla, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 20-year-old was the flavour of the month at Old Trafford in September due to some standout performances after being thrown into a struggling Red Devils side. Mejbri impressed and appeared to be on the verge of establishing himself as a regular fixture in Erik ten Hag's team.

Since then, however, the breaks have had to be pumped on the hype because he has rarely been seen. Hooked at half time in the embarrassing Champions League defeat to Galatasaray and unused in the last three Premier League outings, the Tunisian finds himself on the outside looking in - and it could have consequences for his future.

Due to his great September form, Fabrizio Romano reported that the Red Devils were keen to extend his deal, which is set to expire at the end of the season, though, as FootballTransfers revealed, there is a club option for a one-year extension. Now, the Italian has provided an update on the talks.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, Romano said: “There is no panic over Hannibal Mejbri’s situation. His contract expires at the end of the season but there is the option to extend it until 2025, so there’s no alert."

“As I mentioned in September, the club are planning to offer him a new long-term deal to be discussed soon. Sevilla have been monitoring him since July but United are very happy with him.”

However, if he continues to rot on the bench, the talented youngster may think twice about putting pen to paper on an extension. With 27 senior caps for Tunisia already under his belt at 20 and having shown that he can perform at the Premier League level, Hannibal will understandably feel that he should be playing regular first-team football - something Sevilla will be more than keen to offer.
