It appears that Harry Maguire's days as a Manchester United player are not numbered just yet, if a report is to be believed.

The former Red Devils captain fell down the pecking order in Erik ten Hag's first season in charge and was widely expected to head for the exit. Indeed, West Ham had agreed a deal with Man Utd to sign the England defender but the deal ultimately collapsed and Maguire remained at Old Trafford.

Given that the 30-year-old has only featured four times so far this season, you would think that he would once again be made available in the upcoming transfer window so as to enable Ten Hag to target a player more suited to his style. But it seems that this will not be the case.

According to TEAMtalk, Maguire has been given a lifeline at Man Utd and his Dutch coach has even been impressed by the way he has carried himself since his failed move.

Maguire to stay?

The above-mentioned outlet consulted a source at one of the clubs interested in Maguire in the summer and said source asserted that there has been no indication from Man Utd that Maguire would be made available again in January.

Moreover, it is claimed that Ten Hag has been positively surprised by the ex-captain's professionalism which he believes the squad is otherwise lacking. Since Maguire remains in the England picture despite his lack of game time, the feeling is that he will 'survive' another transfer window.

Yet the report also asserts that the Red Devils will still continue to look at potential options at centre-back with the likes of Jean-Clair Todibo, Antonio Silva and Giorgio Scalvini previously linked.

In the absence of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, Maguire played the full 90 minutes in Man Utd's recent comeback win over Brentford, even providing the assist for Scott McTominay's 97th-minute winner.
