With the scores goalless after 26 minutes, Hojlund pulled the shirt of Rodrin in the box from a Man City free kick.

Rodri went to ground and although there appeared to be minimal contact, the VAR team deemed there was enough for a penalty to be awarded.

Erling Haaland stepped up to dispatch the penalty past goalkeeper Andre Onana and give Man City a 1-0 lead in the Manchester derby.

Just minutes after Hojlund blew a chance to make up for his error as he was put clean through on goal but overrun the ball past Man City goalkeeper Ederson.

Hojlund’s actions meant that City went into half-time leading 1-0, and he was mocked on social media as a result.

Hojlund at Man Utd

Man Utd signed Hojlund this summer from Atalanta for €75 million plus €10m in add-ons.

Hojlund signed a five-year contract until 2028 worth €5m a year plus bonuses.

He made his debut for the Red Devils as a substitute in the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal and has yet to score a goal in the Premier League in 2023-24. He does have three goals in the Champions League, though.

Hojlund exploded in 2023 as one of the most exciting young talents in European football.

He scored 15 goals in the calendar year for club and country prior to his move to Man Utd.
