The Brentford star will be the protagonist of one of the winter's biggest transfer sagas. His betting ban expires on January 16 and the expectation is that the 27-year-old will depart the Bees to finally test himself at an elite club.

Arsenal and Chelsea are among his most high-profile suitors and plenty has been said about which of the two the striker should choose. Ex-Watford attacker Troy Deeney believes that Chelsea would be perfect for him, and Sky pundit Daniel Sturridge concurs.

Jamie Carragher, however, thinks that Toney is Arsenal's missing piece. “Ivan Toney could elevate Arsenal," the Liverpool legend said on Monday Night Football. "He’s a different type of striker and I’m a huge fan of his."

“In terms of quality, there’s no doubt it’s there. But to take Arsenal to the Premier League title? I think Arsenal might have to take that chance because if they don’t fix that position – and the goalkeeping one too – I think it’s going to be very difficult for them to overhaul Manchester City.”

Toney idea for Chelsea

Sturridge then chimed in and, as a successful former striker, gave his thoughts on the matter. “I agree. For me, Toney is a top striker and he deserves that chance. He’s a player who knows the Premier League and understands the level."

“He brings a different level of aggression to the forward line, his hold-up play is good and he’s a finisher. Those are traits you want in top strikers. I think he would suit Chelsea the most, but I also think he could play for Tottenham.”

Indeed, Tottenham are also in the mix, as FootballTransfers exclusively revealed back in July. On Monday, we reported that Toney could be part of a double swoop by Spurs that could also see them land Brentford captain Christian Norgaard.
