Chelsea are intent on signing Evan Ferguson and they believe that their Brighton connections are an ace up their sleeve, according to a report.

The Blues have made a habit of raiding Brighton. The South Coast club have had to watch on as Marc Cucurella, coach Graham Potter - and most of his staff - and finally, Moises Caicedo all departed for Stamford Bridge in recent times.

While certainly big losses, the Seagulls managed to make an absolute fortune from those deals and they already have the next megastar-in-waiting on their books, with elite clubs scrambling for his signature. Evan Ferguson, the teenage striker, is once again impressing this season and despite him committing his future to Brighton earlier this month, the interest in his services remains at an all-time high.

The young Irishman has hit 15 goals at the senior level for the Seagulls, while also scoring three times for the Irish national team all at the tender age of just 19. It is believed that the teenager will command a fee in excess of €100 million, with some claiming he could even shatter the British record of €134m set by Caicedo.

Chelsea's advantage

Just like Caicedo, Ferguson could head to Stamford Bridge. While Manchester United are also interested, Football Insider claims that Chelsea believe their 'inside knowledge' of Brighton to be an advantage.

In addition to some players and staff members, some high-profile figures in the recruitment department at the London club also boast Brighton links, chiefly Director of Global Talent and Transfers Paul Winstanley.

This and the working relationship that has been forged between the two clubs due to the frequent business means that Chelsea are well-informed on Ferguson's every step and they are keen to make this advantage count when Brighton indicate their willingness to sell.
