Fabrizio Romano has revealed the truth behind Mauricio Pochettino’s job security at Chelsea following Saturday’s humiliating 4-1 defeat at Newcastle.

The heavy loss on Tyneside left the Argentine furious with the performance of his side, who he branded “soft” in the aftermath of the game.

It was a loss that leaves Chelsea 10th in the Premier League table, having won only four of their 13 matches to date this term.

Football transfer news expert Romano, though, says that despite Pochettino’s rather sluggish start in the Stamford Bridge dugout, his position is not a concerning one.

Taking to his YouTube channel, he reported: “The feedback I’m getting from the Chelsea side is still the same. They trust Mauricio Pochettino, they decided to go for him because they know he’s the right man for the project, they know it’s going to take time, this is something that the manager is always repeating in public, but also in private in his conversations with the board.

“It’s a young team, they need some time. Obviously, Chelsea want results as soon as possible. Pochettino keeps repeating that – it’s not just about the long-term project but it’s about the winning mentality. It’s about winning trophies.

“He’s not at risk at this point, Chelsea still trust him. No changes at all.”

Chelsea manager merry-go-round

Since Todd Boehly’s takeover, the lifespan of the average Chelsea manager has not been encouraging.

Thomas Tuchel lasted only a matter of weeks while Graham Potter fared little better before being sacked and replaced by Frank Lampard as an interim boss.

Pochettino has arrived but already finds himself under pressure.

Chelsea’s project, which is leaning on the development of expensive young talent, will rely on the Blues finding stability in the dugout to maximise the potential of their squad, and there is a clear belief that Pochettino will be able to do this.
