Liverpool, Chelsea and Barcelona are among a host of clubs interested in Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Moscardo, according to a report.

The youngster has caught the eye in his native Brazil with Corinthians, already making 21 senior appearances despite only recently turning 18. A defensive midfielder by trade, Moscardo is attracting the attention of some of Europe's biggest hitters.

Given the position he plays, it is no surprise to see that Barcelona and Liverpool are two of his most high-profile admirers. Both are desperate to add a holding midfielder to their ranks, with the Reds most prominently linked with fellow Brazilian Andre of Fluminense, though they have now moved on to other targets.

As for the Blaugrana, they are still in the market for a long-term replacement for club legend Sergio Busquets, who departed for Lionel Messi's Inter Miami in the summer. Former Chelsea man Oriol Romeu was always just a stopgap solution for the cash-strapped Catalans.

Speaking of Chelsea, the Blues are also looking at Moscardo despite signing Moises Caicedo and Lesley Ugochukwu in the summer.

Youngster to fetch a record fee

According to TEAMtalk, Moscardo will fetch a record fee in the event of a move. His current club Corinthians are keen to make him their most expensive sale ever, a record still held by returnee and former Barcelona man Paulinho when Tottenham bought him for just under €20 million as one of their myriad Gareth Bale replacements in 2013.

The Brazilian side are demanding as much as £26 million (€30m), claims the report, which is giving Chelsea second thoughts seeing as though they plan on adding several reinforcements in January, including a big-name striker - like Ivan Toney - who could command up to €100m.

Everton, Fulham and Newcastle are also credited with an interest in the midfielder who is still under contract until 2026. Real Madrid are also paying attention to his development but are not as keen to bring him in as other sides.
