Harry Maguire regrets Man Utd not signing world class star
Harry Maguire appeared to express regret that Manchester United failed to sign Harry Kane this summer.
United were in the market for a top-class number nine coming into the new season.
Kane had initially been their top target but they pulled out of the race to buy him when Tottenham demanded a three-figure sum for the player.
As a result, Kane ended up moving to Bayern Munich for a club record fee and he has enjoyed a brilliant start to the season.
What did Maguire say about Kane?
“For me, he’s the best striker in the world,” Maguire said after Kane scored in England’s 1-1 draw with North Macedonia.
“When he’s not on the pitch, we miss him. He’s our captain, he’s our leader and he has been since I’ve been here.
“He’s an important player, of course, he’s our goalscorer. I’ve always said about Harry that he’s one of the best strikers in the world and he’s proved it now for eight or ten years however long he’s played at Spurs.
“Now he’s gone to Bayern and is doing what he does - score goals, he’s a magnificent person, a big leader as well. He’s a threat for every defence and he played really well when we played them at their place and if we’re going to beat them at Old Trafford then keeping him quiet is an important job to do.
“I knew when he went to Germany, any club which signed him in the summer, he would score goals, that’s what he does. He scores goals, he does it day in and day out in training, he’s a nightmare to play against and can put the ball in the back of the net from any angle.”
Kane has scored an incredible 21 goals in his first 16 games for Bayern in 2023-24.
He will be up against Man Utd next month at Old Trafford in a game the English team must win to have any chance of qualifying for the Champions League last 16.
