The two Premier League behemoths are set to go head-to-head on Saturday in what could be a crucial fixture in this season's title race. It's still early in the campaign, but Liverpool and Man City are already battling it out at the summit of the table.

The Reds are just a point behind the Cityzens and beating the Manchester club would also be good news for the rest of the chasing pack with Arsenal also a point off top spot and Tottenham and even Aston Villa not far behind either.

There have been some brilliant clashes between these two sides during the Pep Guardiola-Jurgen Klopp era and the upcoming game is bound to be another scintillating fixture. Liverpool boast the joint-best defence in the league (along with Arsenal), while City, unsurprisingly, have the division's most potent attack.

Ahead of the clash, one of City's formerly potent attackers, Sergio Aguero, has given his thoughts on the game and revealed that he used to be quite fond of the Reds in his youth.

What did Aguero say?

Speaking to Stake, the Argentine admitted: "I used to like Liverpool when I was younger because of [Michael] Owen, who had also started as a teenager. Even when I was playing on my Playstation, I tried to play like Owen!"

"In my 10 years at City, we've had amazing games with Liverpool. Even more so lately, fighting for the Premier head to head. I've scored some important goals, but never got to score at Anfield, though."

At age 17, Aguero was reportedly being eyed by the Reds - and the striker admitted that the move would be a dream come true - but nothing ultimately materialised.

Asked whether he ever truly came close to joining the Anfield club, the now-35-year-old said: "I wouldn't know, really. I've read that they didn't go out for an offer because I was very young and it seemed like a risky bet for the transfer cost."

As for the upcoming match, Aguero predicts a tight affair. "Just like every match against Liverpool, it'll be tooth-and-nail. Both managers know each other deeply, and they'll try to one-up the opposition somehow. Certainly can't miss that one. Hope it goes City's way because those three points would be decisive against a rival for the title."
