Liverpool rival Chelsea for Bundesliga wonderkid

Liverpool have entered the race to sign highly-rated German attacker Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen.

The Premier League giants have started the season strongly but still want to add to their attacking front in 2024.

Indeed, even though Mohamed Salah has been firing on all cylinders and Darwin Nunez has seen an uptick in form, the club are still on the lookout for another player to come in and play across the front three.

As per a report from the Daily Star, the Reds have thrown their hat into the ring alongside other top clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich - with each one expressing interest in signing Wirtz.

It's thought that Jurgen Klopp is hoping to use some of his German connections to ensure that they snap up and Bayer player ahead of the rest.

The 20-year-old has been in impressive form this season, contributing to Bayer Leverkusen's unbeaten start under the guidance of Xabi Alonso.

Is Wirtz as good as Messi?

So far he has netted six goals and nine assists across all competitions, drawing comparisons from Alonso to the likes of Lionel Messi. The coach explained: “There are good players and there are players who look good on the pitch. The player who looks good

“Why is Messi so good? Because he knows how and when to play simple passes. Messi says: "You're in a better position? Here, there you have the ball!"

'It's not always about making the most brilliant move, but the best and smartest. Florian can do that. That's why he's so good.”

Wirtz is thought to be one of the select few generational talents that could win the Ballon d’Or in years to come.

But Bayer will undoubtedly demand a high price for the youngster, who has some of Europe’s elite sides keen on him,
