Liverpool face the prospect of losing Luis Diaz to Barcelona one day, with the player’s father revealing that it is the winger’s dream to play with the Camp Nou side.

Diaz’s father has made the headlines recently after being kidnapped in Colombia, while his reaction to seeing his son netting twice to defeat Brazil in World Cup qualifying went viral.

Now he finds himself in the spotlight once again after making a transfer revelation over the 26-year-old, who arrived at Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 for €47 million in what has proven to be a successful operation.

But he has hinted that the Reds should enjoy the player while they still can because he ultimately wants to move to LaLiga’s champions.

“[The] truth is that I know very little about Barcelona at the moment,” Diaz Snr. Told Win Sports.

“It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona fan and it would be his dream to go there. So far I would like to thank Porto and Liverpool for the way they welcomed him and received him.

“Luis is a player who finds it easy to win over because of the way he is, because of his humility, his work, his dedication, he is a very disciplined player, thank God.

“There would be no problem if Luis came to Barcelona because it is a top team and one of the best in the world.”

Luis Diaz not going anywhere… yet

With uncertainty clouding the future of Mohamed Salah, who is being linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, the last thing that Liverpool need are fresh doubts over another of their attacking players.

But while Luis Diaz’s long-term ambition may lead him to Barcelona, in the short term a move is unfeasible.

Barca are operating largely in the free agent market due to financial restrictions, and unless there is a dramatic change in their fortunes, these are likely to curtail the club’s spending ambitions for the next 18 months at least.
