Manchester City made a transfer bid for PSG youngster Warren Zaire-Emery during the summer transfer window, it has been revealed.

Zaire-Emery has been one of the breakout players across European football in the 2023/24 season, rapidly developing into an important figure with Luis Enrique’s side.

Thanks to his blistering club displays, the 17-year-old has been called up to Didier Deschamps’ France squad and is in line to become the youngest player to turn out for Les Bleus since the First World War.

Zaire-Emery, though, had started to make his breakthrough under Christophe Galtier last term, and his performances were sufficiently interesting to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City that they made an official approach for the midfielder last summer.

According to the information of France Television, Man City were bullish enough about their confidence in the youngster that they offered what has been described as a “crazy” €60 million fee to PSG for the teenager.

This bid was, obviously, rejected by PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who did not want to see another academy prospect disappear out of the door so rapidly.

Zaire-Emery confidence justified

PSG’s faith in the player has proven to be well placed, with the maturity, confidence and physicality of the gifted central midfielder all shining through in what has been a sparkling campaign for him to date.

Although there had been some criticism that he does not yet produce enough in the final third, he has answered those questions emphatically in recent games, with four assists and two goals since the beginning of October.

Zaire-Emery produced two pre-assists during PSG’s 3-0 win over Reims on Saturday as they moved to the top of Ligue 1 and he is now a player so valuable to the club that there is simply no prospect of him being sold, assuming he extends his contract beyond its current expiry date of June 2025 before the summer.
