Man Utd to target clear out in 2024 with TEN players to be axed
Manchester United will target a clear out of their squad in the net two transfer windows, with TEN players reported to be on the chopping block for Erik ten Hag.
United are looking at ways of bouncing back from their disappointing start to the season, which sees Ten Hag’s side sitting sixth in the Premier League and bottom of their Champions League group.
The Red Devils are anticipating the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the coming weeks as a minority investor, with the billionaire set to buy 25% of the club from the Glazer family for a rumoured price of around £1.4 billion.
Ratcliffe will reportedly be handed control of United’s sporting operations in a move which will see the club look to clear out a large portion of their squad, according to the Manchester Evening News.
United saw 14 players leave the club during the summer, having been looking to cut costs in order to comply with the Premier League’s financial fair play rules.
Ten Hag is keen to bring in a centre-back in the coming months and that could see one of United’s first-team defenders leave the club in order to raise funds and make room for arrivals.
Which players could leave United in 2024?
Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans are out of contract at the end of the season, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Anthony Martial and Hannibal Mejbri also have deals expiring at the end of the season, although United have an option to extend them for a further year.
Harry Maguire was touted to leave United in the summer but he has regained his place in the first team, putting Raphael Varane’s future at risk, with his form and fitness declining amid speculation linking him with a move away.
United also reportedly anticipate more midfield turnover, with Scott McTominay still facing uncertainty despite good form this season, while Sofyan Amrabat’s chances of turning his loan into a permanent move appear to be slimming following his tough start to life in England.
Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho are available for transfer with both players unlikely to feature for Ten Hag barring a dramatic turnaround and fringe options such as Brandon Williams, Alvaro Fernandez and Shola Shoretire will also likely leave when their contracts expire next summer.
