The Red Devils were dealt their ninth defeat of the season on Wednesday evening when 17-year-old Chelsea target Roony Bardghji scored a spectacular late winner that saw Copenhagen triumph 4-3 in Denmark.

After the match, under-fire boss Erik ten Hag heavily criticised the referee for what he perceived to be unfair decisions, the most high-profile of which was the sending-off of Marcus Rashford in the 42nd minute. Ten Hag said that the red card "changed everything," and he was correct as Copenhagen managed to cancel out Rasmus Hojlund's brace before the end of the half.

The second Copenhagen goal came about from another contentious decision as Harry Maguire was penalised in the box for handling the ball. Diogo Goncalves stepped up and duly converted the spot kick, but not before Red Devils youngster Alejandro Garnacho attempted to scuff the penalty spot, as he had already done at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture when the Danes were awarded a stoppage-time kick that was saved by Andre Onana.

Garnacho slammed

Copenhagen players didn't take too kindly to the 19-year-old's actions and defender Denis Vavro had some choice words for him after the match. "I saw that he tried to do something about the penalty kick," he told Bold.dk, "but Kevin Diks stood in front and blocked."

"It is the second time. And then on our track? To me, he is a clown. He has the mentality of a child when he tries something like this again. In an away game. One thing is at home in the 97th minute, but here in the first half. I don’t understand him trying to do that.”

Coach Jacob Neestrup, too, raised eyebrows with his comments after the game, insisting that "it was by far the weakest performance we have had in this group stage so far."
