Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial will leave in the January transfer window, with a loan deal for the former Monaco youngster having been announced by media.

Martial is destined to follow in the footsteps of Fred by moving to Turkey, with Super Lig side Fenerbahce closing in on his signature according to the local press.

Fotomac believe that the deal is all but done, announcing: “Anthony Martial arrives at Fenerbahce!”

Should the move be completed, it would be Martial’s second temporary spell away from Man Utd, having joined Sevilla in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign.

The 27-year-old failed to score a league goal in his spell in Spain, but after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford, where he has netted only once in 15 appearances this term, he appears destined for another switch.

Fenerbahce to open Martial talks

According to Fotomac: “Fenerbahce have set their sight on the Manchester United attacker to strengthen their attack this season.

“Fener want to take advantage of this to loan the France international, who wants to play regularly in order to stake a claim for a place in the France squad for Euro 2024.”

Negotiations over the terms of the loan move are expected to begin next week when Man Utd travel to face Galatasaray in a vital Champions League group-stage match.

Although Man Utd have been left unimpressed by Martial’s form, offloading the Frenchman in January might not be as obvious a move as it seems for Erik ten Hag’s club.

United have an acute shortage of centre-forwards, especially as Rasmus Hojlund is struggling to settle into the Premier League and is still waiting for his first goal in that competition.

Marcus Rashford could be moved into that role, but the England international has also come under fire for his poor displays this term.

If Man Utd find a replacement for Martial in January, though, there is every chance an agreement could be struck.
