Manager Erik ten Hag is not happy with current options Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot.
Ten Hag is also a big fan of Dumfries, who he knows well from their time together in the Eredivisie, with the wing-back previously a player for Ajax’s rivals PSV.
Indeed, he had explored signing him for Man Utd last season.

Dumfries has been the best player in his position in Serie A this season, managing two goals and seven assists in all competitions for club and country.
His form has helped Inter to top of Serie A and joint-top of their Champions League group.
Dumfries was one of the best right wing-backs at the recent 2022 World Cup, playing a key role in Holland’s journey to the quarter-finals where they only went out on penalties to Argentina.
The 27-year-old scored one goal and grabbed two assists and was a constant force up and down the right flank in Louis van Gaal’s team.
Dumfries is physically suited to the Premier League as he boasts strength, stamina, speed, aerial ability and has a goal threat.
