Everton fans believe that Manchester United will have to dig deep into their pockets to afford a deal for England U21 star Jarrad Branthwaite.

Branthwaite, who spent last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, has shone for Sean Dyche’s side this campaign, and Man Utd are keeping tabs on his progress at Goodison Park, according to reports.

The Daily Mail have reported that Branthwaite is on Man Utd’s radar as they look to sign a new centre-back following Lisandro Martinez’s injury woes and Raphael Varane’s uncertain future.

He is not the only player on their wish-list, Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba are also being pursued, but Branthwaite has attracted the attention of the Man Utd hierarchy.

Now, they have been told that Branthwaite may cost a small fortune by Everton fans. While FootballTransfers’ in-house Player Valuation Model suggests Branthwaite is worth €10.6 million, having only just broken into the senior side at Goodison Park, Toffees fans don’t agree.

In response to a Twitter post by user @TacticallyMatt, Everton fans responded with their valuation of Branthwaite.

One fan replied: “They paid £86m for Antony so a figure of about £600m should be enough. Plus 30% sell on,” while another wrote a more serious answer of: “At the moment, must be around £80m. If he finishes this season as he has started it then probably £100m.”

That seems to be the ballpark many Everton fans agree with. A third fan added: “£80m. John Stones went for £50m. So there’s inflation plus the fact he’s already played Champions league.”

“They paid 80 million for Maguire 4 years ago, who was older. I’d be wanting 100 minimum,” a fourth supporter replied.

Liverpool told to sign Branthwaite

Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes that his former side should move for Branthwaite in order to prevent Man Utd from signing the English star.

After the Merseyside Derby, he said: “Salah may have been the headline-grabber, but it was Jarrad Branthwaite who stood out the most at Anfield. I think he is a really good player,” he wrote.

“I don’t want to upset any Evertonians by saying this, and whether Liverpool would buy from Everton is another matter as it rarely happens, but I certainly think he has got the ability to go on and become a leading figure and a starter for England.

“The fact Jurgen Klopp even talked him up before the game in his pre-match press conference was interesting. He is likely to be on the radar of other teams as well, Manchester United have already been mentioned as a possible destination, but it’s up to Everton over what they do with him.

“A left-sided centre-back is something we were in the market for during the summer transfer window, which we didn't end up signing in the end. If we were to make a move for Branthwaite, he would probably cost a significant amount due to the English premium that we so often see in the game.”
