Manchester United wants to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s attacking options by adding Bayern Munich veteran Thomas Muller to their ranks, according to a report.

The 34-year-old German was also of interest of Erik ten Hag's club last winter, but at the time he opted for a longer stay at Bayern.

Ten Hag, though, wants to try his luck again with the veteran attacker in the January transfer window.

Muller has been at Bayern Munich for his entire professional career, having been part of the main squad since 2009 and before that a mainstay of the youth academy.

He has played a total of 680 matches for the Alliaz Arena side to this point in his career, scoring 237 times and created 261 more. During this time he has won countless trophies and has been an integral part of the squad both on and off the field.

The 126-time international (45 goals) is not assured of a starting place this season under Thomas Tuchel. In total, Muller has only played 485 minutes, spread over 14 games. He has only started five times, in part because of the arrival of Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur – ironically a player Man Utd coveted for years before his move to Germany.

Muller and Neuer in line for new Bayern deals

Kicker previously reported that Bayern intends to extend the contracts of Muller and fellow FCB veteran Manuel Neuer.

Although the former is no longer always assured of a starting place, his value as a ‘leader and emblematic figure’ is undisputed, the magazine wrote. Both players are under contract with the club until the end of the season.

Muller has an expected transfer value of €19.1 million, according to FootballTransfers’ unique Player Valuation Rating, but if he were to Man Utd, he would immediately become a key player due to his Skill Score of 82 – which is higher than anyone presently at Old Trafford.

Nevertheless, a move to Old Trafford would still remain a huge shock.
