Christopher Nkunku’s Chelsea debut is close, with Fabrizio Romano giving an update on the situation of the France international attacker ahead of the Premier League fixture with Manchester City at the weekend.

Nkunku has yet to feature for the Blues since making a €60 million move from RB Leipzig during the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old has suffered from a knee injury that has prevented him from taking to the field for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, though there is hope that when he does return, he will be able to help unlock Chelsea’s misfiring attack.

When will Christopher Nkunku make his Chelsea debut?

There had been hope that Nkunku would be able to feature against Man City in Sunday’s showcase Premier League encounter, but Romano says that the former PSG man will not be rushed back into action.

“From what I’m hearing, despite some rumours in the last 24 hours because of an Instagram stories post from Nkunku posting some positive message ahead of the weekend, what I can tell you is that Chelsea will take no risks with him. So he will not be on the pitch this weekend,” Romano explained via his YouTube channel.

“For Chelsea, the idea from the club is to wait and to be careful. They don’t want to take any risks with Nkunku because he is a crucial player for the present and the future, for Pochettino and the club, they are altogether on the same position.

“So what’s the plan? He’s not going to be tried this weekend but he’s going to be ready after the international break. This could be at the beginning of December. Let’s wait for the next steps but between the end of November and the beginning of December, Christopher Nkunku is expected to return on the pitch for Chelsea.”

Nkunku’s debut could come, therefore, against Newcastle away, Brighton at home or on the road against Man Utd as Chelsea try to negotiate a difficult series of fixtures before the hectic Christmas calendar.
