Arsenal and Chelsea target makes transfer PROMISE amid €100m deal rumours
Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres has discussed transfer rumours linking him with a potential January transfer to Arsenal or Chelsea.
The Sweden international, 25, left Coventry to sign for the Portuguese giants in the summer in a €20 million deal and has shone in Lisbon, scoring 17 goals and creating eight more in 20 games.
After just six months, he is being linked with a move back to England, this time to Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea.
Although Sporting have put a €100m price tag on the head of a player who previously flopped at Brighton, rumours linking him with the two London giants persist.
He has opened up on the prospects of a January deal to Record.
“I think it’s a bit like when Sporting came in to sign me,” he replied when asked about interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.
“I’m very happy here and I don’t care about any interested parties at the moment. I’m enjoying every day here and not thinking about what’s going on around me. Yes, there’s talk of big clubs, but for now it’s just news. That’s all.”
When asked directly if he would promise to remain at the club until at least the end of the season, he replied: “Yes. This is where I want to stay.”
Although Gyokeres has been in excellent form, Arsenal and Chelsea have been warned not to repeat the mistake Liverpool made by overpaying for Darwin Nunez 18 months ago.
Gunners and Blues share transfer targets
Arsenal and Chelsea are being linked with many of the same players ahead of January, with both teams seeking a goal-scoring No.9.
The Gunners have pulled out of the race to sign Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, which Chelsea remain active in, yet a deal appears impossible until the summer.
Brentford striker Ivan Toney is another possibility for both clubs, with FootballTransfers revealing the Bees are willing to sell at the right price.
Finally, Arsenal are monitoring Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic, who has also been a target for Chelsea in the past.
