Man Utd ready to swap Rashford for Barcelona star
Manchester United are ready to offer Barcelona the opportunity to swap Marcus Rashford for Raphinha.
Rashford finds himself at the heart of a storm following Man Utd’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Sunday, with the England international having been perceived to have lacked effort throughout the game.
The 26-year-old has endured a miserable campaign, having netted only twice in 18 matches in all competitions – one of which was a penalty presented to him by Bruno Fernandes at the end of the 3-0 win over Everton.
If it was hoped that moment might kickstart Rashford into gear, that has not proven to be the case, with the winger one of the most disappointing aspects of United’s feeble weekend display.
According to TodoFichajes, Man Utd have had enough of the underperformance of their attacker have “placed him on the exit ramp”.
It is stated: “One of the options that is gaining most strength is a transfer to Barcelona and more specifically an exchange with Raphinha as the second protagonist.”
Raphinha a calculated risk
Raphinha is a player that Man Utd have courted previously during his time in the Premier League with Leeds, although it was Arsenal who most coveted the Brazil international star, who retains a strong reputation in England for what he achieved at Elland Road.
Certainly, the Red Devils are in need for more offensive quality in their side, with no one at the Old Trafford club pulling their expected weight in an attacking capacity.
Equally, Barcelona are seeking more offensive muscle, and having failed to see the best of Raphinha in Catalunya, they are seeking low-cost January solutions. A swap for Rashford could, therefore, be appealing.
It is stressed that at this point a deal is only in a draft stage but the report indicates that a deal could quickly ignite.
