Eintracht Frankfurt are currently leading the race to sign unwanted Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek on loan during the January transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Van de Beek, 26, has endured a miserable spell at Old Trafford since he left Ajax in 2020, and the appointment of Erik ten Hag last year has not helped his case.

In total, the Dutchman has played in just 62 games since joining the club, with those appearances totalling up to only 2,082 minutes of action in over three years.

Van de Beek’s role has been even more restricted this season and he has made just one Premier League appearance so far - a two minute cameo against Crystal Palace.

He has been an unused substitute in seven league games this campaign, while the former Netherlands international has been omitted from the matchday squad on eight occasions in the Premier League.

However, he is set to be offered a career lifeline by Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, as per Romano.

Romano has reported that talks are advancing between Frankfurt and Man Utd, and the German outfit are leading the race to sign Van de Beek as things stand.

High-flying LaLiga leaders Girona are also interested in landing the Dutchman on loan, but they are reportedly offering different conditions at this stage.

But, Van de Beek is almost certain to leave Man Utd in January to end a woeful stint at Old Trafford that has seen his career completely stall.

Van de Beek’s career demise

When Man Utd spent €39 million to sign Van de Beek on a permanent deal from Ajax in 2020, that fee was actually a bargain; his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) just six months after the deal was finalised stood at a huge €55m.

However, his value has plummeted since then and Van de Beek’s ETV is now a lowly €6.8m.
