Man Utd ‘SERIOUS’ over striker who scores every 47 minutes
Manchester United’s interest in Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy is “serious”, according to reports from Germany.
Man Utd are on the hunt for a striker during the January transfer window and the Old Trafford club have pinpointed the in-form Guirassy as a player who could potentially help first them to a Champions League spot next season.
Sky Sports Deutschland has confirmed Man Utd’s desire to explore the possibility of signing former Rennes hitman Guirassy.
“Man Utd are very interested – that’s confirmed,” Florian Plettenberg confirmed via X, formerly Twitter.
“Manchester United are looking for a new striker in the winter transfer window and the 27-year-old can leave Stuttgart for less than €20 million in January.
“Man Utd have been informed about all the details.
“Understand that Man Utd is a serious option for Guirassy once it becomes concrete from the Premier League team’s side.”
Guirassy a bargain or a flop in waiting?
Guirassy has a release clause of just €17.5 million in his Stuttgart contract and is sitting second in the race for the European Golden Shoe after scoring 15 times in just 10 Bundesliga matches. This equates to one goal every 46.5 minutes that he has been on the field in Germany’s top flight.
The Guinea international forward has scored in all but two matches he has played this term.
Despite his remarkable record, there are several arguments against why Man Utd should not be investing in Guirassy at this juncture. One of these is that the striker due to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations in January while his current run of hot form in front of goal is entirely out of keeping with what has gone before it during his career.
Sky Sports Deutschland also reports that Man Utd are continuing to monitor RB Leipzig attacker Timo Werner as a backup option, though this would also be a controversial move given his previous struggles with Chelsea.
