Timo Werner is not ready to return to England despite rumoured interest from Manchester United, according to reports in Germany.

The RB Leipzig forward has been linked with an exit due to his limited role at the club this season, and Erik ten Hag’s Man Utd are reportedly keen on signing him as they look to bolster their forward line.

Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg has reported that Werner is on Man Utd's shortlist for the January window, while the Red Devils have already inquired about his availability. However, no formal negotiations have begun at this early stage, as per Plettenberg’s report.

But, this news has been shut down by Christian Falk, who believes that Werner is extremely unlikely to leave Leipzig in January, and a return to the Premier League isn’t on the cards due to his experience at Chelsea.

What has been said?

Falk told CaughtOffside: “Neither management nor the club have heard anything about United’s reported interest in Timo Werner.

“Werner also had bad experiences at Chelsea FC in England. The player is considered very sensitive. He is currently having problems at Leipzig, but first wants to regain his self-confidence.

“He doesn’t feel ready to move to England at the moment. Newcastle were actually already interested, but that won’t happen this winter either.”

Werner scored 23 goals and laid on 21 assists in 89 Chelsea games, and after two years at Stamford Bridge, he rejoined RB Leipzig for €20 million last summer.

This year, Leipzig signed Lois Openda and Benjamin Sesko to improve the options available to Marco Rose, and that decision has left Werner on the fringes.

The Germany international has started just two Bundesliga games this term and is yet to be included in a Champions League starting XI either.

Werner’s current deal at Leipzig runs until 2026, but the German club are reportedly open to selling for the right price.
