The USA international has started just one Bundesliga game so far this season and the January arrival of Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United has pushed Reyna even further down the pecking order.

As a result, he has been linked with an exit in 2024 and FootballTransfers understands that Aston Villa have registered their interest in signing the Dortmund star.

Wolves, Marseille, Nottingham Forest, Sevilla and Real Sociedad have also been linked with a move for Reyna, while ESPN have reported that he could cost around €15 million.

We have been told that Villa have enquired about Reyna’s potential availability as they seek January arrivals amid their push to secure Champions League football.

Unai Emery’s side are currently third in the Premier League table, two points behind league leaders Liverpool and three points clear of Tottenham Hotspur, who are fifth.

Giovani Reyna joins Jorge Mendes’ agency

With transfer speculation rife, Reyna has added fuel to the fire by signing with Mendes’ agency Polaris Sports.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva and Rafael Leao are known clients, with Mendes representing some of the most well-known football players in the world.

In an Instagram post announcing Reyna’s arrival, Polaris Sports wrote: “Presenting a new star @gioareyna. Welcome to the team.”

Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has previously admitted that Reyna is unsettled but has said that he must take responsibility for improving his own level.

“Gio had a difficult time and was often injured. It's not easy because of the line-up we have in the middle,” he told Sky Deutschland. “I can understand that he may be dissatisfied at the moment. But it's also important for him to step on the gas.”

Reyna has seen his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) fall from a peak of over €50m a couple of years ago to €24.4m in January 2024.
