Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool in the summer could be on after a report in France indicates that the PSG superstar appreciates the Anfield club.

Mbappe is out of contract at the end of the season with the Parc des Princes side, setting up the possibility of a move as a free agent in the summer.

Real Madrid’s interest is dropping, and while PSG retain confidence that they may be able to sign him to a fresh contract, the possibility of completing a transfer to Anfield is one that is live.

And Liverpool have been given further hope that they might land Mbappe thanks to a report in L’Equipe that indicates that he still holds the Premier League club in high esteem following a meeting he had with them during his time in Monaco – a club he left in 2017 to move to PSG in a deal worth €180 million.

The report says: “The courtship that Liverpool paid to the striker when he was still at Monaco was never forgotten and neither has the discussions in the private plane of the English club’s shareholders while flying over the Mediterranean.

“And if Carlo Ancelotti is a popular coach, Jurgen Klopp also knows how to do it.”

Can Liverpool match Mbappe’s wages?

Finances are expected to be a hurdle for Liverpool given that Mbappe earns around €56 million (£48m) net at PSG per year.

Indeed, Klopp said last year that “the financial conditions do not suit us at all” when it came to Mbappe.

The report says: “This is not longer the case. And Liverpool have an argument, both economic and sporting.”

It is a debate that Mbappe is reportedly willing to listen to, which is why he has been non-committal with his answers when he has been asked about his future. He wishes to study every opening available to him.

If Real Madrid are fading from the picture regarding Mbappe’s future, Liverpool still very much have a role to play.
