Fabrizio Romano has shot down a major Manchester United transfer rumour that has been doing the rounds for several days.

The desire of Erik ten Hag to part company with Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been rumoured since the former Ajax boss took command of the club 18 months ago, and though the former Crystal Palace star has risen in prominence in recent times, these suggestions persist.

Indeed, this had led to the suggestion that Wan-Bissaka could be swapped for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries, a player United have been linked with thanks to his far superior attacking output from the position as well as his roots in the Netherlands, where Ten Hag has sought to recruit a sizeable portion of his players since arriving at Old Trafford.

Romano, though, is not having any of this transfer rumour, taking to the United Stand on YouTube to claim that there is nothing to claims that Ten Hag is trying to provoke a swap deal with the Serie A title hopefuls.

There is little doubt, however, that a right-back remains a priority for Man Utd going forwards, but they will only make a long-term look to fill their current void in that role in the summer when the takeover of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group is complete.

Sir Dave Brailsford is set to head up the recruitment policy and will oversee a sweeping change at the club, both in terms of the backroom staff who are scouting for transfer targets as well as the squad that appears on the field.

United are set to be more circumspect in their recruitment policy and not be held to ransom as they have been in the recent past.

Wan-Bissaka is liable to be replaced by a more attacking player, though whether this is in the form of Dumfries or someone completely different has not been made clear.
