Greenwood, on loan at Getafe from Man Utd, received a straight red card on Tuesday during the 2-0 home loss against Rayo.

He was given his marching orders in the 50th minute after saying something to referee Jorge Figueroa, who then brandished the red card.

What did Bordalas say about Greenwood? Getafe coach Bordalas has revealed that the Englishman used foul language but did not believe it should have resulted in a straight sending off.

Bordalas said: “The player told me that he said ‘don’t f*** with me’, only that.

“It was in frustration but at no point has he insulted anybody.

“It was a comment, ‘don’t f*** with me, why won’t you blow (the whistle).”

Greenwood joined Getafe on loan during the summer after United concluded their investigation into the criminal charges he was facing last year, which have since been dropped.

United announced that Greenwood would look to continue his career away from Old Trafford, having not played a game since January 2022 following his arrest by police.

Man Utd investigation on Greenwood

The 22-year-old was initially earmarked by United for a return to the first team after an internal investigation by the club but these plans were shelved following a negative reaction to the speculation and Greenwood was eventually told to leave the club.

However, with his contract due to expire in 2025, United have never explicitly stated what the plans were for Greenwood upon his return from loan, with the club focusing on the immediate steps to continue his career rather than the long-term path.

Thus, the door is still not completely shut on a return to Man Utd - even if the bad PR from any possible return makes it difficult.

Greenwood has impressed for Getafe this season. He has scored five goals and got four assists in 16 games in all competitions.
