Man Utd Women's five most expensive transfers of all time
Manchester United were the only big club in England without a women’s side for over a decade, with the Glazers disbanding the team in 2005.
Man Utd Women was then founded in 2018 and they were awarded a licence to jump straight into the second-tier of English football.
They achieved promotion to the WSL in their debut campaign and have become a force to be reckoned with ever since.
Below, FootballTransfers runs through Man Utd Women’s five most expensive transfers of all time.
5. Phallon Tullis-Joyce - €150k (from OL Reign, 2023)
Amid concerns that first-choice goalkeeper Mary Earps may leave the club, Man Utd opted to spend €150k on OL reign shot-stopper Phallon Tullis-Joyce in 2023.
The American experienced a very similar situation at OL Reign after spending her first campaign as back-up to Sarah Bouhaddi before becoming first-choice the following season.
Man Utd expect the same thing to happen when Earps’ contract expires at the end of the 2023-24 season. Tullis-Joyce has only featured in the Conti Cup since joining Man Utd, with Earps still the preferred choice in the WSL.
4. Gabby George - €175k (from Everton, 2023)
A seasoned England youth player, Gabby George spent time in Man Utd’s Centre of Excellence as a teenager, before joining Everton to play professionally.
She enjoyed a successful nine-year stint with the Toffees, playing over 150 times, before returning to Man Utd after they activated her release clause of €175,000 in 2023.

George became the club’s starting left-back and made her European debut against PSG in October 2023 before suffering the second ACL injury of her career just five days later.
3. Lisa Naalsund - €185k (from SK Brann, 2022)
Norwegian midfielder Lisa Naalsund became Man Utd Women’s most expensive signing in history when she joined the club from SK Brann in 2022, although that record has since been broken.
She helped her former club win the Norwegian first division for the first time in 2021 before backing up with that victory with another triumph the following year. Naalsund then jumped ship to join Man Utd after the Red Devils lodged a €185,000 bid for her services.
Injury problems plagued her first campaign at Old Trafford, however, as Naalsund made just two appearances in 2022-23.
2. Anna Sandberg - €209k (from BK Hacken, 2024)
United announced the signing of Sandberg on a three-year contract with an additional option year for Anna Sandberg. The fee made her the most expensive Swedish women's player of all time, dropping the money paid to Rosengard for Hanna Bennison the second.
1. Geyse - €300k (from Barcelona, 2023)
Despite joining Barcelona in 2022, the Blaugrana sold Geyse after just one year as she was outperformed by fellow new arrival Salma Paralluelo during her only season at the club.

The Brazilian joined Man Utd Women for a whopping €300,000 in 2023 after netting 10 times for Barcelona.
Geyse was signed following England international Alessia Russo's free transfer departure to Arsenal.
