EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle consider former targets Summerville and Godfrey for January window
Newcastle may look to revisit some of their summer transfer targets with Ben Godfrey and Crysencio Summerville under consideration, FootballTransfers has been told.
The pair were the subject of recruitment meetings during the last window and we understand that the pair could be revisited.
It’s believed that a deal for Godfrey would be viable given a low asking price of £9million that Everton have set, while the club are admirers of the defender’s ability to play across the centre of defence as well as at right-back.
Godfrey, who had interest from Tottenham recently, is out of contract in 2025 and has made just two Premier League appearances this season, totalling 91 minutes.
How much will Newcastle have to spend this window?
Summerville, meanwhile, is flourishing this season, with 18 goal contributions in 24 games across all competitions. The right-winger has been instrumental to Leeds’ promotion charge, and as such, sources tell us that a deal would be hard to do during this window.
Newcastle did send scouts to watch over the 22-year-old earlier this year and admiration remains, while he shares the same agency as Eddie Howe, American firm Wasserman, who helped broker deals for Lewis Hall and Harvey Barnes last year.
The Whites would certainly demand a significant sum for Summerville, but while Newcastle have briefed concerns over their hamstrung budget owing to Financial Fair Play constraints, we are told that the kitty is a lot more than what they have made out so far, in a bid not to be priced out of deals.
Eddie Howe is enduring something of a nadir in his tenure with the Magpies but there is an understanding that injuries have played a massive part, while the side hope to be as active as possible during this crucial month.
