Deadline Day: Five Premier League transfers that could happen
As we approach the final day of the January transfer window, it’s time to take a look at some of the moves that may still yet transpire.
Premier League clubs have had a relatively mild window by today’s standards, but if the past is anything to go by, there’s bound to be a few surprises on the cards yet.
The deadline for English teams is at 11pm GMT on Thursday, February 1, 2024, meaning we are approaching the 24 hour mark.
Here FootballTransfers takes you through five deals that still could materialise.
Bryan Gil to Brighton
Brighton and Tottenham are currently engaged in discussions regarding a potential loan deal for winger Bryan Gil, who finds himself out of favor at Spurs. The Seagulls are actively pursuing an initial loan agreement ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline.
Bryan Gil, a 22-year-old Spaniard, has only made two starts this season, with his playing time further limited by the January acquisition of Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the campaign. Since his £21 million transfer from Sevilla in the summer of 2021, Gil has struggled to leave a notable impact in English football. Notably, he returned to Sevilla on loan for the second half of the previous season, following a stint at Valencia in the prior campaign.
Manager Ange Postecoglou has indicated the possibility of both Gil and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg departing the club before the February 1 deadline at 11 pm. However, he emphasizes the need to replace them in the squad in the future.
Armando Broja to Fulham
Fulham is considering a last-minute move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja following Raul Jimenez's injury during last night's 0-0 draw against Everton.
Jimenez had to leave the field at half-time due to a suspected hamstring strain, leaving Fulham anxiously awaiting the assessment of the extent of his injury.
Despite traveling with the Chelsea squad for tonight's match against Liverpool, there is still a possibility that Broja could depart the club before the upcoming transfer deadline. Fulham appears to be the most probable destination for the striker, especially with Wolves showing reluctance to submit another offer after their recent loan bid was turned down. While Aston Villa and West Ham had previously explored the option of acquiring Broja, it is not anticipated that they will rekindle their interest in him during this transfer window.
Andre to Fulham
Andre looks set to remain with Fluminese despite Fulham coming back to the table for the midfielder. Even though there has been extensive interest in the youngster, including Liverpool and West Ham over the summer, it’s looking more and more like he will remain in Brazil. That said, given his profile and the level of interest in Andre, it could see a club make a move in the final day of the window.
Antonio Nusa to Brentford
FootballTransfers revealed that Brentford are set to revisit a move for Norwegian winger Antonio Nusa of Club Brugge.
The Bees had reached a €30 million agreement on Sunday for the winger but the move stalled due to complicatons around the player's condition. Brentford were open to allowing the 18-year-old to remain on loan at the Belgian club for the remainder of the season, but complications arose during Nusa's medical examination on Monday, revealing concerns about a cartilage issue in his knee and additional problems with his back.
Conor Gallagher to Tottenham
The prospect of Conor Gallagher joining Tottenham Hotspur before Thursday's transfer deadline remains a viable option, as indicated by renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano in an update shared with GiveMeSport. Throughout the month, Gallagher has been consistently brought up as a potential departure from Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea reportedly open to selling him if the right offer comes their way. This consideration comes despite Gallagher's significant contributions to Mauricio Pochettino's team this season, including instances where he has captained the west London side.
