Arsenal have been given a fresh boost in their pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, despite heavy competition from Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been linked with signing a new centre-forward this summer amid Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah’s struggles in front of goal, with Osimhen alongside Ivan Toney on their transfer wish-list.

However, Chelsea and PSG also want to sign Osimhen and have previously been considered as more likely destinations for the Nigeria international, with Arsenal somewhat of an afterthought.

Despite this, Arsenal are still interested in landing the Napoli star this summer and Ban Jacobs has handed the Gunners a significant boost in their pursuit of the 25-year-old.

Jacobs revealed to GiveMeSport: “We still can't rule out Arsenal in the race for Osimhen. It’s also true that PSG have Osimhen very, very high on their list of targets and can move in the market because they will free up money due to Kylian Mbappe’s departure.

“I'm still told by sources that Osimhen’s priority is the Premier League, which is encouraging for Chelsea and Arsenal. He would be looking for about £250,000 per week, which Arsenal, Chelsea and PSG would all be happy to pay.”

Emmanuel Adebayor urges Victor Osimhen to join the Premier League

Former Arsenal forward Emmanuel Adebayor wants to see Osimhen in the Premier League and he recently admitted to BBC Africa: “He [Osimhen] has the right attitude, mentality and determination to excel there [in England]. I'm praying for him to move to the Premier League and show what he's capable of.

“The Premier League is the toughest and best [league] in the world,” the ex-Arsenal striker continued.

“Osimhen has shown and done it already in Italy, I think it is the right time for him to move to England and replace his idol Drogba and do beautiful things.

“He has all it takes to make a name and write a great chapter in England like Drogba.”
