Official: Arsenal’s top target to be sold this summer
Brentford manager Thomas Frank has confirmed that Ivan Toney will be sold by the club this summer.
Toney was one of the hottest properties in the January transfer window, with Arsenal very keen to sign the England striker and Chelsea also linked.
The 27-year-old ended up staying at Brentford, but Frank has admitted that while there were no official bids in January it is virtually certain that Toney will be sold at the end of the campaign.
What did Frank say?
“Ivan Toney will most likely be sold in the summer,” Frank told Tipsbladet.
“He’ll only have a year left on contract with us, so it’s quite obvious.
“This winter, we actually had NO bids for him.”
The Gunners have made the signing of a top striker one of their main priorities for the summer transfer window.
Toney is considered as their top striker target among many sources on a shortlist that also includes Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus and Victor Osimhen of Napoli.
Toney has proven himself as one of the best English strikers around in recent years with 20 Premier League goals in 2022-23.
He missed the first half of this campaign due to a betting ban but returned to playing last month.
He has since been in excellent form, scoring two goals in three games.
He has won one cap for the England national team and he is hoping to work his way back into the squad for Euro 2024 this summer.
Toney has an impressive 162 goals in 394 games during his career, appearing for the likes of Northampton Town, Newcastle, Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe, Wigan and Peterborough.
He joined Brentford in 2020 and has since scored 70 goals in 126 games.
