Osimhen to Chelsea? Ornstein reveals Blues' EXCITING summer transfer plans
Chelsea’s summer plans have been addressed by football transfer news expert David Ornstein, who has lifted the lid on the club’s chances of landing Victor Osimhen from Napoli.
The Blues might have claimed a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace in Premier League action on Monday, but their overall level this season has once again been disappointing. Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in line for a second mid-table finish in succession.
Although more than €1 billion has been spent on new players over the course of the last 18 months, more changes are expected in the summer.
Fans are particularly clamouring for a new centre-forward, with Osimhen favourite to join the Stamford Bridge side after club legend Didier Drogba’s intervention, but Ivan Toney of Brentford and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson are also linked with the London outfit.
Ornstein has revealed that Chelsea do have a No.9 on their shopping list, though perhaps not quite so far up the list of priorities as fans might have wished.
Speaking to NBC, he revealed: “Chelsea’s recruitment policy will continue on a youthful front. We will see some activity in the summer. They will address the defence. In attack as well but it’s not guaranteed that they will sign one of these big-name huge money signings. The midfield I think is well set. The confidence inside Chelsea is high that they will remain compliant with FFP.”
Will Chelsea sack Pochettino?
Ornstein also addressed the issue of Pochettino’s future, which has come under scrutiny due to poor performances this season.
“The external pressure was building around him but internally I’m not aware of any conversations that have taken place about his future. The new ownership are, to my knowledge, are backing Mauricio Pochettino wholeheartedly,” he said.
“Of course results do need to improve. This inconsistency will be deemed unacceptable. They’ll want to have a better second half of the season, but there are opportunities aplenty.”
Chelsea are into the fifth round of the FA Cup and face Liverpool in the EFL Cup final on 25 February.
