Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that, as things stand, he will be available after EURO 2024.

Though he did not have the easiest of times in 2023, Julian Nagelsmann's stocks remain as high as ever. The German national team boss is still one of the most in-demand coaches in world football despite surprisingly getting sacked by Bayern towards the end of last season and overseeing a patchy start to his tenure with the DFB team.

Following the sacking of Hansi Flick last year, the 36-year-old has been tasked with leading Germany to a successful EURO 2024 on home soil. What happens after the tournament, however, is anyone's guess. Nagelsmann's contract only runs until the summer, meaning that he will again be on the market later this year.

This means that he will be considered a possible option for big-name sides looking for a new boss, such as Liverpool and Barcelona, with Jurgen Klopp and Xavi both surprisingly announcing their upcoming departures a day apart last month.

While Xabi Alonso is currently considered the favourite to succeed Klopp at Anfield, there is no guarantee that he will actually leave Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the campaign. Nagelsmann, on the other hand, would be available and seemingly open to returning to club football.

Nagelsmann on his future

Asked by Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg whether he will still be in charge of the DFB national team after EURO 2024, Nagelsmann said: "I haven't thought about it yet. Since my contract ends after the EURO, I would say: as it stands now, no."

"I've said it since the beginning of my tenure. The EURO is currently the focus. Then we'll see if I'm still the coach. If so, we'll prepare very well and try to get the most out of it and win the [Nations League] group. We want to play a good EURO. Then we'll see what happens next.“

If Nagelsmann were indeed to leave his role with Germany, there is the problem that he would only be able to start his club duties fairly late in the summer and with very little preparation. You would think that massive clubs like Liverpool and Barcelona will already have a new man in charge by the time Nagelsmann's EURO 2024 adventure ends.
