Door opens for Man Utd as PSG make Osimhen decision
PSG have taken a major summer transfer decision that could have implications over the future of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen is a player who is widely expected to leave Serie A in the forthcoming transfer period, with the new contract he signed late in 2023 containing a release clause designed to allow him to depart for a fee somewhere in the region of €130 million.
While interest has come primarily from the Premier League, where Chelsea are ahead of Manchester United and Arsenal as favourites to land the Nigeria striker, PSG have long been linked with an interest in Osimhen.
Indeed, the 25-year-old was a player touted to move to Parc des Princes when it seemed that Kylian Mbappe might depart last summer.
With the news that Mbappe will leave PSG at the end of his contract in June, Osimhen finds himself subject of renewed transfer rumours linking him to the Parisian side.
Le Parisien confirms that there remains interest in the player, who already has Ligue 1 experience with Lille.
It states that the Ligue 1 leaders are looking to make him a like-for-like replacement for Mbappe and says that PSG are prepared to pay “a lot of money” for a proven goal scorer.
Man Utd can revisit old targets
In turn, this will have a knock-on effect on Randal Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos, both of whom are players that Man Utd tracked last summer with a view to signing.
PSG do not plan to sell either star but the door is not necessarily closed on a departure for these players.
Le Parisien adds: “If they leave Paris, it will be their doing, at their request. For the moment, Randal Kolo Muani does not follow this logic. For Goncalo Ramos, it is a little less clear and it is not excluded that he intends to change scenery next summer after a very difficult first few months. His compatibility with the gameplay of Luis Enrique raises questions.”
Man Utd’s new backroom team, brought to the club by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, may have different views on Ramos and Kolo Muani, but the possibility of revisiting these deals should Osimhen fall through is definitely live.
