Euro 2024: Five Germany stars who could move clubs this summer

Germany are set to host the European Championship this summer, seeking to put a disappointing World Cup behind them.

It’s all change for the national team with Hansi Flick long gone and former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann now in charge.

Recent signs have been encouraging for Germany and they will be heading into their home tournament in a lot better shape than only a few months ago.

Possessed of some of the best individual talent of any squad at the Euros, Germany will have plenty of interested clubs watching their performances.

Uncertainty around Bayern’s plans long-term could mean big moves on the horizon for some of their stars and there is also emerging young talent that is just too hard to ignore.

Here we look at FIVE Germany players set to go to the Euros who could make a move this summer.

Jonathan Tah

Jonathan Tah is out of contract at Bayer Leverkusen in 2025 and it is looking increasingly likely that the centre-back will be on the move.

Leverkusen chief Simon Rolfes would like to keep Tah at the club long term, as they head back to the Champions League and into the European elite under Xabi Alonso, but so far there are no guarantees over his future.

The former Hamburg youngster has been keen on moving since the summer of 2023 and, despite Bayer 04's stunning success, this desire remains.

Though Tah is interested in challenging himself in the Premier League, with Chelsea tentatively interested, it seems he will swap Bayer for Bayern this summer. Talks have begun and the Bavarians view him as their priority target.

Having spent nine years at Leverkusen, making over 300 appearances, signing off with a double might well be the perfect way to say goodbye.

Joshua Kimmich

Champions League winner Joshua Kimmich has reportedly made it clear that there are only five teams he would be willing to leave Bayern Munich for, should the Bavarians decide to cut him loose.

Those clubs are Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Kimmich, 29, and Bayern have been engaged in a contract standoff all year with the midfielder’s terms expiring in 2025 and no breakthrough being made over a new deal.

It’s been reported that Kimmich, one of the top earners, would like a pay rise but the club are not willing to entertain those demands.

The versatile midfielder-cum-full-back will be an integral component for the Nationalmannschaft on home soil this summer, albeit at right back, and a good display there could encourage interested sides to open the chequebook, with Bayern keen to raise funds.

Chris Fuhrich

One of the standout performers in Stuttgart's side as they finished runners-up to Bayer Leverkusen, winger Chris Fuhrich is facing an uncertain future.

Though happy to remain in Swabia, the 26-year-old is being courted by Bayern Munich and is even said to have admirers at Chelsea and Tottenham.

Fuhrich boasts a €25 million release clause, which makes him an attractive option. Bayern are yet to make a concrete approach, but it seems only a matter of time before this materialises.

Waldemar Anton

From one Stuttgart star to another, captain Waldemar Anton is being courted by the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen after an outstanding campaign.

Previously a middling Bundesliga centre-back, Anton enjoyed a career revival under Sebastian Hoeness, showing himself to be good on the ball and very solid defensively.

Anton has a release clause worth €22.5 million.

Maximilian Beier

The breakout star of the 2023/24 Bundesliga season, Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier is expected to be on the move this summer.

Fitted with a €30m release clause which reportedly expires on June 30, the rapid forward has been linked with the likes of Liverpool, Man Utd and Bayer Leverkusen.

It seems unlikely that his clause will be triggered before its expiration, but Beier is nevertheless likely to depart Hoffenheim in the coming weeks and months, perhaps even for more than €30m.
