Liverpool and Barca get DECISIVE update on future of €100m-rated Wirtz

It’s been an incredible week for Bundesliga table-toppers Bayer Leverkusen.

First came the news that Xabi Alonso would be STAYING with the club despite interest in the manager from Real Madrid and Liverpool.

On Saturday a late show from Robert Andrich and Patrik Schick helped preserve the Werkself’s season-long unbeaten record, coming from behind to beat Hoffenheim, 2-1.

And then on Saturday night, Leverkusen’s closest challengers for the Bundesliga title, Bayern Munich, lost yet again, going down 2-0 to Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena.

Leverkusen’s coach and players are now only THREE wins away from claiming a first-ever German league title and etching their names forever into club folklore.

Among their star players this term has been Florian Wirtz, the 20-year-old playmaker who has recovered from a serious knee injury to again become one of the most electrifying young talents in Europe.

He has scored seven goals and provided 10 assists in 27 Bundesliga matches this season and has seen his name linked with big-money moves to clubs like Liverpool and Barcelona.

Wirtz is under contract at Leverkusen until 2027 but that has not stopped the reports suggesting he is being primed for a move away from the BayArena.

However, Leverkusen fans will be delighted to know that the club’s hierarchy is safeguarding against a mass exodus this summer.

Wirtz is ‘100 percent’ staying with Leverkusen

Fernando Carro, the Leverkusen CEO, spoke with Spanish radio station Onda Cero this week in which he reiterated his side’s desire to keep the team together under Alonso for another season at least.

As part of those plans, there is NO DOUBT that Wirtz will be staying long term, despite Leverkusen having the opportunity to bank €100 million or more for his signature.

"This year he will 100 percent definitely stay here," Carro said about the Germany international, who scored his first goal for the national team in last week’s victory over France in Lyon.

That’s sure to come as a timely boost for Leverkusen, a team on the up and planning to dominate for the long term.
