The former Porto player was linked with both Real and Atletico prior to joining Jurgen Klopp's side.

"I was not aware that there was anything positive with Madrid clubs," DIaz's father, Mane, told Cadena Ser. "I heard things, but I never knew if there was anything else.

"With Liverpool everything was more precise. The directive was more precise for Luis to get there.

"He hoped that he could come [to Madrid]. [Radamel] Falcao had already been there, James [Rodriguez] too.

"In the end it didn’t happen, but hope has not yet been lost. He is playing and the clubs are active."

The Colombian has performed relatively well for the Merseyside club, registering 22 goals and nine assists in 91 appearances in all competitions.

He has won an FA Cup and two Carabao Cups, and he could yet add a Premier League and/or Europa League trophy to his collection this season.

However, it would appear that he is not totally happy at Anfield, and would like to move to one of La Liga's giants.

And while Diaz's father mentioned the two Madrid clubs in the recent interview, he has previously spoken about Barcelona.

Luis Diaz to Barcelona?

Diaz's father once described his son as a 'loyal Barcelona fan', revealing that he would love a move to Camp Nou.

"[The] truth is that I know very little about [interest from] Barcelona at the moment," he said.

"It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona fan and it would be his dream to go there."

"So far I would like to thank Porto and Liverpool for the way they welcomed him and received him.

"Luis is a player who finds it easy to win [fans] over because of the way he is, because of his humility, his work, his dedication. He is a very disciplined player, thank God.

"There would be no problem if Luis came to Barcelona because it is a top team and one of the best in the world."
