Donny van de Beek's girlfriend has provided a major update on the Manchester United flop's future.

The midfielder's loan nightmare at Eintracht Frankfurt continues. Hopes that Van de Beek would be able to resurrect his career in the Bundesliga were misplaced. The Dutchman is still struggling for minutes despite recently being given a vote of confidence by head coach Dino Toppmoller.

After barely featuring for Man Utd, Van de Beek is now also out of the picture in Frankfurt and the chances of a permanent move to the Bundesliga side are rapidly dwindling despite the fact that the Eagles boast a relatively affordable purchase option in the region of €10 million to €15m.

Had Van de Beek come good, it would have been a brilliant piece of business, but as things stand, the signing of the midfielder - even though only on loan - was a gamble that has massively backfired and German media is striking an increasingly harsh tone when discussing the 26-year-old.

Speculation surrounding his next move has been rampant, with Dutch media in particular linking Van de Beek with a return to Ajax. Now, his girlfriend has addressed the rumours and given her thoughts on the matter.

Van de Beek open to Ajax return

Estelle Bergkamp, Van de Beek's girlfriend and the daughter of Netherlands and Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp, spoke about her boyfriend to De Telegraaf, admitting that it's not an easy situation for him but that he is trying his best.

"It is what it is. Donny tries very hard. He always does that and I have nothing but admiration for that. We'll see what comes our way in the future.”

Asked about his future and whether he would be open to returning to Ajax, Bergkamp revealed: "Yes, who knows. Of course, the Netherlands is always nice, but we are now also very happy abroad. We'll see how that goes in the future.”
