The 22-year-old departed Old Trafford on loan last summer and he is expected to leave the club on a permanent deal at the end of the current campaign.

Getafe are reportedly keen on retaining Greenwood on a permanent deal, while Barcelona have also been heavily linked with a move for the Man Utd forward.

The Blaugrana’s interest in signing Greenwood has been well-documented in recent weeks and rumours of a move to Camp Nou have intensified after reports of a meeting between Man Utd chiefs and Barcelona sporting director Deco.

According to Marca, Man Utd have set an asking price of €50m for Greenwood.

What has Sir Jim Ratcliffe said?

Sir Jim Ratcliffe spoke about Greenwood’s situation recently and admitted: “He’s a Man Utd footballer, so we are in charge of football.

“So the answer is, ‘Yeah, we have to make decisions’. It’s quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that’s been made.

“He’s on loan obviously, but he’s not the only one. We’ve got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to make a decision, so we will do that.

“The process will be: understand the facts, not the hype, and then try and come to fair decision on the basis of values, which is basically is he a good guy or not?

“Could he play sincerely for Manchester United well, would we be comfortable with it and would the fans be comfortable with it?”

Before joining Getafe, Greenwood had been suspended by Man Utd since January 2022, the day of his arrest for suspicion of rape and assault.

He denied all allegations and after key witnesses withdrew from the investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges against the forward in February 2023.

After a lengthy investigation into the player, Man Utd reached a mutual agreement that Greenwood would leave the club on loan.
